Clutch Question
Hey quick question. I'm pretty sure I know the answer just want some reassurance.
My buddy just installed a new ram clutch in his car as well as the rebuilt t5 that came out of my fox and a steeda tri ax.
The gears are grinding (luckily its just sitting at the garage) which is due to the clutch being out of adjustment, obviously. The clutch was also smokin a bit since its out of adjustment.
Is an adjustable clutch quadrant needed? I'm thinking yes, or can an the clutch be adjusted on an aftermarket set up such as this without a new cable/quadrant?
Thanks

wait so the gears grind and the clutch smokes?
those should be opposite adjustments.... if the cable wasn't fully disengaging, it would grind as in the cable isnt tight enough. and if it's smoking the clutch then the cable would be too tight..... and being too tight would not cause gears to grind since it would be fully disengaged....
those 2 obviously contradict eachother

Or the clutch is smoking because it cannot disengage fully when switching gears? Which would result in the same adjustment direction needed as when correcting the grinding.
As opposed to being not fully engaged ALL the time which is the case when it would require the opposite adjustment, as you described.
But anyways thanks for not helping me.

Well, yes, it does drive. The garage comment was there to avoid all the people that would chime in just to say don't drive the car without the cable being adjusted.
I'm sorry that my response was rude, although intended. I just get irritated when people post comments that are more insulting than helpful. So quick to point out how the assessment of the situation is wrong, without actually providing any useful information. Although not as bad as the threads where information seeking MF'ers ask for help merely to get yelled/b!tched at for using the wrong terminology or not knowing what to do. I thought that's why we ask for help. I hope this doesn't spark more off topic responses.
Back to the topic, whether the clutch needs adjusted one way or the theoretical two... Is an adjustable clutch quadrant/cable needed or can I make OEM do the job.

Thanks,
Probably going to be putting an aftermarket one in there.
Is all that is needed a quadrant? Does the cable come with it as part of it or should that be picked up seperatly.
Just for personal knowledge, how would one go about adjusting the stock cable? Is it much different than with aftermarket parts?

i've never messed with the stock one honestly....
but i picked up the ford racing adjustable clutch quadrant and cable kit. it was like 80 bucks. if you want ease of adjustment you can get a firewall adjuster to add to it.
otherwise you just adjust it with 2 1/2 wrenches
