Default gas leak?

so my car was in the shop today getting a few things checked out specifically my gasmileage problem...

I have a small leak on the top of the tank... my mechanic said there is residual marks on the left side... is this the symptoms of a bad tank? or a bad gasket on the sending unit?

wont be able to get done for a few weeks, I need to go back to school... so he said dont fill it up to the top till it gets fixed... nor do I have the money to pay for it really...

but chistmas break she'll be gettin taken apart... looks like its time for a 255lph pump... is one of those plug n play?

Yeah, pretty much. I bought a Holley from Summit. It was a direct replacement.

definitly just drive around with a 1/2 tank or less. Its not hard at all to do a fuel pump swap. When you get the tank down, do a visual inspection looking for any rust marks or obvious holes in the tank itself. after that, its just a case of finding where the tank is leaking from. Based on the age of your car, id bank on the rubber seal for the fuel level sending unit. You can get those seals from any parts store that has any half-way competent employees

thanks adder. my mechanic is gonna have a new tank, sending unit, and seals on order for when I go home in about a month... told me if I dont need a new tank, he'll return it and fix whats only broken/bad... I'll have them do the pump as well, makes sense... and weld on my subframe connectors while its there

Make sure he gets the rubber grommet that the filler neck goes into.
