checking pressure in heads

checking pressure in heads
after rebuilding my first 302 here, I found a couple of coolant leaks, waterpump and the thermostat houseing, well while I am waiting for my new pump to show up I decided to run a compression check on my motor just to check my first head gasket install. right now I am in the middle of it and am running in and out of my house to the computer, I will post my results here in awhile, but I wanted to get this thread started to find out what everyone else's head pressure was, and to see if I am "in the ball park" I am half way through and am averageing about 141 psi, cyc 1-4 sofar.

RE: checking pressure in heads
ok, I am done with my compression test, mind you the motor was cold, since I am doing this with the water pump off. I will list each cylinder and its reading in PSI,
1: 140 2: 141 3: 144 4: 141 5: 138 6: 145 7: 90-100 8: 133.
I think my problem may lie with #7, not only does it have the lowest psi reading, but when I "bump" the starter for four-five compression strokes for the test, you could actually hear/feel the compression stroke on all the cylinders but #7, it was like the motor wasn't working hard at all when I had the tester hooked to #7
at this point I like to ask the more experienced motorheads what I should do? my guess is head gasket, but I would like to know what to look for, and if it could be a ring or valve problem, or all the above let me know what I should look for before I just dive in, ty
