looking to buy a 5.0 need some help

depends on how much power you wanna put to the ground. you can do the gt-40 stuff and make some decent power and get suspension and some gear and REALLY bring it to life.
first you need to decide exactly what you want the car for. dd street car, street/strip car, or just strip car?
then we can help you with a setup.
if you want a dd and some pep in your car and do highway driving, i'd say get some 3.55 gears, some gt-40 stuff like heads and intake, but grab a trickflow cam.

but you can grab some gt-40 heads on craigslist normally or ebay.
there are so many combos it's hard to tell you a price until you give us a real budget you'd be willing to spend and what you want out of the car

just wait for the right car. and take some else else to look with you.
check for rust, if u live in salt loving cities.
i regret just jumping on my 86. if u dont like it, dont get it. beware of hanging wires, some mods, grinding gears, rear end noise and things like that.
also, make sure the lug nuts are on tight. trust me, no one ever checks.
take a magnet with you just in case too.
also, u can get the gt40 stuff really cheap at a junk yard, the 97+ explorers had them, snag the intake and throttle body too if u can.

well here the problems with car no2 is it worth it
the car won't pass inspection as it is (cats are gutted, tints, smoked tail lights, brakes, no horn) only other issue is a small transmission fluid leak (mechanic said most likely pan gasket) , won't drip most days but it would eventually need repair, the engine has no problems and it runs fine, aftermarket exhaust and a cold air, let me know if you're still interested
