Default 3.73 or 4.10

I can't decide which gears to run in my car. It is a 94 gt 5 speed. My tires are 25.7'' tall. The car is stock right now but later on I would like to put some GT-40 heads, cam, explorer or cobra intake, and some the normal bolt ons. What gear do you think would be best 3.73 or 4.10.

i have same combo as you cept for my tires are like 26.1 or somethin in there...i have 3.73s and honestly if i woulda gone 4.10s it probably woulda been nice for racing, but i street drive it too much...and even with the 3.73s in my town from all the stop signs gets old shifting so much, but im happy with them. good highway manners yet still let you rip around when you want to... oh also still got 22mpg highway after they were done..and that was with probably 20 miles in town too..so it woulda been better all highway

I figured that at 70 mph with 3.73's I would be turning 2294 rpm and with 4.10's 2522. 3.73 are sounding better.

hell no. I have 4:10's and it runs 3100 at 70mph. 2500ish at 65. don't get down to 1500 til you're doin 45. this is all in 5th. I'm getting anywhere from 16 to 20 mpg. you top out faster with 4:10's but they're still super fun. *mischevious grin*

although I am putting 3:73's in the 87...:P

Ya... well just for your knowledge I also have a 94 gt (automatic but... still might help) I put 3.73's in mine with a eaton possi and on the highway going.... 70ish.... I'm turning like 2300 rpm's! I may be wrong but I believe with your 5 speed you'll be a little higher on the rpms... I have no experience with higher than 3.73's but I feel that any higher than that I wouldn't be able to take a long road trip without refilling ever couple hours! lol

FYI- the 3.73's actually made a noticably... positive difference in my gas mileage in town... I drive alot of windy roads going to my house and I average about 50mph and the gears didn't hurt my gas mileage at that speed! I don't drive a whole lot of highway so... Don't really know if there's a huge difference at speeds of about 70mph. Whichever way you go... you should be happy! it definitely wakes up a car!
Sorry for such a long post! bored during class! lol

I have heard of people getting better gas mileage driving in the city with 3.73. I guess because it is easier to take off.

ya... I was told that it was because of that! it makes the engine not work as hard to get the car going! I have no idea why! lol I'll leave that explanation to the experts on here! Good luck on your decision though! it's a difficult one!
