why waste his money on a inferior part? there is less chance of a brake with a 8.8 they are stronger this gives him room to grow. you say they can hold up to 400 hp but how much torque that's the ? how long will it hold up to 1.50 or faster 60fts or slicks. some people make more then 400 hp and plan on more. I have broke 3 7.5 in street cars with street tires and I have never broke a 8.8 other then the clutches in the rear and a mini spool. But to each his own I like to try and do it right the first time.

Thanks for the help guys. I think im going to go with better safe then sorry, and if i get lucky i could find one with some 3.73 or 4.10 gears. And thanks for the link 83glx5.0 that will be helpful. I know you guys probably get annoyed with questions about gears because so many people ask about them. But, 83glx5.0, are you glad you went with 4.10's or is it too much?

thats how much i paid for the 8.8 i bought. It was from an 88gt i believe.

100 for rear end
60 for 4.10 gears (new)
90 for complete rebuild kit'
200 for professional install

Total = 450, just to give you an idea of what it cost me.

8.8" rear well proven & the way to go! ...won't even waste my time with a 7.5" rear, broke mine on the streets with my stock '85 GT...
