Default gt40p heads combo help!!

hey guys..

can you please help me.. here is what i'm about to do..

i have an 89 mustang with .30 over.. complete exhaust .. AOD tranny.. MSD coil and box.. runs good but i want to upgrade a little..

have a set of gt40p heads (already got headers) with new stock valve springs and keepers.. new ARP head bolts..a lower and upper intake of 98 mountaneir... that i want to install.. some of my friends told me install a e-303 cam since i'm going to have it open.. well if i do that.. i'm going to upgrade my converter to a 2500 stall .. or can i still run the stock converter??? does anybody have this set up already and can tell me anything about it.. ?

i also understand i have to buy an elbow in to install my new intake... because i can't use my old one.. since the old one has a smaller throttle body..

please help me get mys set up right...
please tell me what i need to get to do it right..

thanks in advance

you can run the stock convertor but I'd run one matched to the e-cam and run the proper springs on those heads fro the e-cam and as far as an elbow???? what exactly do you mean?? is it an sn-95??

Id check around and look for a custom cam theyre not much more than off the shelf cams.

BTW good choice on the heads i love my GT40P's for being a stock casting head they are pretty stout.

Default elbow

he said i need an elbow for my upper intake because on mountaneirs is a complete 90 degrees and on mustangs is 45... i'm going to use the mountaneir throttle body.. thanks

i want to keep my car a daily driver without being a gas killer.. so basically my question is ... is it worth to change the cam while i'm doing the heads??

thanks

you dont necessairly have to change the cam you can opt for setting up to 1.7 rr which will help out. id definately suggest getting a bigger stall if you go with the e cam a buddy of mine had an ecam in his t-bird with an auto and it would die a lot at stops...

Personally, as long as you are going this far, I would swap the cam out while it's apart. You can also find a better cam than the E cam (TFS stage 1 or Comp Cams), but that's your decision. If you do decide to change the cam, do yourself a favor and install the matching springs, you'll be glad you did. With the E cam, I'd go with a 2500 stall converter.

AOD torque convertor - you can keep the lockup feature
FMS-M-7900-L INCREASE STALL 400-600 RPM HIGHER THAN STOCK (200-2200)
FMS-M-7900-T INCREASE STALL 600-800 RPM HIGHER THAN STOCK (2200-2800)

If you're going to get a converter, get one that matches your application well, but leaves you plenty of room to grow as well just incase you feel the need to get a bigger cam later on down the line.
