key has to be in start position 4 car to stay running help!!!!!!!!!!!!

i have a 1984 mustang with a 1987 ho 302 and the older style solenoid and the key has to stay in the start position to keep car running anyone know why?

could have a bad ignition switch electrical portion or you have the coil wired wrong, meaning hot in crank only...I assume this is a carb set up??

Sounds like a bad ignition switch. They had a recall on them years ago.
