45 MINUTE JOB FOR ME
I removed the upper intake Manifold, Covered the lower Intake Manifold holes, and trans diptick with tape.
Cut the old heater core tubes off flush,Marked and grinded a rectangular shape around the tubes holes, cut that section of metal out(VERY THIN).
Now you see the heater box top cover, I used my micro torch and cut it even as well.
Pulled the old heater core out,put the new one in, stuffed with synthetic wool THICK PADD.
Fabricated a cover(not necc), and was back on my way.
The hell with taking the dash off a fox body.
If it were your car and you paid me I would do it, but since its mine, I did what I had to do and made it look neat.
This pic is the ugly before patching the air-box and spray painting black, grinding the metal smooth, and the custom panel painted black with 4 screws for future repairs.
But its to give you a general idea, wear eye protection, and continuous blow out the flames from the plastic and the grinding.
That piece hanging, is just a piece of insulation tape off the old one.
Vacuum the opening and inside the airbox of you want or use a dry towel to get the old crud out.
Very small opening, the pic is enlarged.
This does not have ANY after effects, except saving you time, money and a sore back.
All features blow hot , strong clean air again ! : )
Parts Needed
1 FT 5/8 HEATER HOSE $2.50
4 5/58 HOSE CLAMPS $3.89
1 HEATER CORE $19.00 -Wherever

1 old pillow case
1 Upper Intake Manifold Gasket- (if necc).
1 Piece Tin / Steel Thin $4.67 - Home Depot, Ventilation Parts
or use whatever material you want.oR USE ALUMINUM DUCT SEALER TAPE.

1 Roll 3/4 or 1 inch thick foam insulation tape $2.79 Home Depot
*note on back of the cover apply 1inch thick or 3/4 thick insulation foam tape: )
On a scale of 1-10 (10 the hardest) this is a 2

im working on more pics today and r tom,
Had to go to work, they are backed up, dont even know why the dam owner decided to open service on sunday!
anyhow, you can also use your figurmentation to fab up any cover you like.
Plastic, steel, tin,, ventilation aluminum, vinyl, whatever, you like, then paint the final piece.
I used foam insulation tape around the corners of the cover$2.86 roll, I pre -drilled 4 holes in it as well.
You can even just use a piece of ALUMINUM DUCT SEALING TAPE

ok, until its warmer, I'm using the foil tape and undercoat, my jig saw went out today and they aren't cheap.
To make you regular cover, it helps to use a hammer to flatten any indents on the firewall but that's not needed as the insulation foam tape will contour to the imperfect shapes just fine as you screw the cover down.
The pillow case will seal you air tight as it is.
You can also drill 4 holes and use plastic push pins to hold the cover in place, a lot of options there

Just did my heater core over the weekend, and wow what a job, I feel for anyone who has to go thru that, took me 8 hrs. But it was a good learning experience, I loosened the dash and dropped the heater box, seemed like the best way to go, well good luck to all with heater core issues.
