they should be the same size, where did you hear that??? i would port the lower and gasket match the upper before i put them on though. also there are production cobra manifolds new on ebay for $350 plus shipping.

Update!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have just finished installing my 1998 Explorer upper and lower intake manifold that I got from ebay from $250.00
Not just that but I also installed new elbow adapter for 65mm T/B and msd ignition coil with accel wires and mini race plugs.
I also installed my tower brace with minor modifications and many people told me that teher was no way it would fit back......ok.
The whole swap took about 6 hours and my car runs and feel NICE!!!!!!!!!!
I have a 1994 GT and the 1998 Explorer intake 5.0 manifold fits perfect
