Bent Valve

Hey guys I got a bent valve on the stock head for my 95 mustang gt 5.0 is it better to do a valve job or get a different set of heads

be a good idea to pick up a new set if you have the funds, gt40's gt40p's. re working stockers is kind of a waste.

i'll sell you mine if you dont want to spend the money reworking yours. new valve springs on em, they are on the car now and they work. :)

lol i might be interested, but everyone is raving about the gt40 heads so i wanted to get a used set but i wanted to know if you get a set of gt40 heads dont you need to get the car tuned so it runs right, but only having 300-400 to spend on this i dunno what to do

FivePointOhh 12-27-2008 02:35 PM

you can get a set easy for 300-400 but you'll have to do some searching. if you find a set in the j/y it'll run you 110 for the set here in iowa. thats if they charge by weight. some j/y's know what they are and charge like 250. ebay is tough to get a set cheap especially when you factor in shipping. tri state cylinder head sell them completely reworked shipped for 500 bucks. so that'd probably be out for you. and no you dont need a tune for anything HCI wise to get it to run right.

which gt40's should i get? Do you know what years from the explorer to pull them from? I work with a shipping company so i can get them shipped for free so thats why Im asking so many questions sorry its got to be annoying

get a rebuilt set of gt-40's

minnow81469 12-27-2008 04:46 PM

I can rebuild them i just need to know what years of explorers 5.0 motors i can use the gt40s from and which are the best to use

i think what hes referencing is having a valve job done and new valve guides put in. not something you'd be able to do yourself and you'd have to take it to a place.

96 to 97 1/2 explorer and i think 96 mountaineers too.

Yeah it needs valve job and valve guides the shop i get most my stuff from wanted a hundred a piece for each head since the passenger side is so messed up so i figure since its winter it would be a good time to get a set of heads or have them reworked anyone else has some ideas let me know

How do you know if the head is an actual gt40 if you pick it up from a j/y?
