Running too rich, Not a good Dyno result

In my 89 lx, i am able to pull a 14.7 qtr mile fairly consistantly. My question is, it only dyno'd at 219.4 HP and 295.6 FtLb torque. The air/fuel is 11.9 to 12.1 and the horsepower starts to drop at 4700 RPM. The air/fuel is 11.9 at 4700 RPM. What do I need to do to get my qtr times lower and the air/fuel correct? The exhaust smells of gas.

Here's whats been done to the car before I bought it.
Crane Cam 444221, Compucam 2030
Bored 30 and the crank turned .10
the heads were completely rebuilt with the valves being angle cut
new 19# injectors
cold air intake
3.73 gears
formally automatic, changed to a tramek T-5
cobra clutch and pressure plate, and oh yeah, the car has no working emissions equipment. The smog pump was removed and he had a "Ford" person go through the motor and eliminate all emissions all the way down to sealing off the exhaust hole on the intake.

Any help is greatly appreciated!! Thanks

Jonathan

have you checks for codes?

o/r exhaust without emissions stuff....itll always smell a lil more gassy then another car...just another mustang :)

FORD TOUGH 12-28-2008 12:49 AM

Check for codes. Did the dyno shop have any suggestions.

Smitty0425 12-28-2008 01:06 AM

Havn't checked for any codes, the guy at the dyno shop told me to get a chip that he could program for me, but I wanted to ask all of you guys out there first!

FivePointOhh 12-28-2008 01:09 AM

he wanted to burn a chip for you because its 300+ dollars in his pocket. you dont need a chip if you dont have in power adder.

you're having an issue with one of your sensors out of whack.

FORD TOUGH 12-28-2008 01:13 AM

Check for codes and let us know what happens. Also was the vehicle fully warmed up?

sounds like your car has a non working emission component

well the power numbers are great!!! first off the 1/4 times are a little slow guessing your on street tires??? might look at fuel pressure.. bad oxygen sensors will cause the afr to be off.... hows your plug wires cap rotor??? might also need to clean the mass air...

LCBlackDep183 12-28-2008 03:38 PM

^^ Supposedly i've read you can take a propane torch to your 02 sens. tips to help burn/clean them. Personally I'd just replace them but your numbers seem right so im not so sure there's much wrong. Do you have a adjustable FPR?

If your running e7 heads they're going to start to choke above 5000...

you have a cam in a stock motor...what more do you want???:(............sticky tires will help out but you really need a better cam, better heads and intake...bottom line = you need more power:)
