Default 5.0 stalling and hard starting

Well I checked through a lot of the forums and did find anything like this, hope someone can help. I have a 94 GT, and about a year ago it started having a starting problem. It would take about 20 seconds of cranking for it to start. It would not kick or anything, just crank and crank then it would start suddenly. It did not do it very often only about once a week, warm or cold made no difference. I changed the ignition module and fuel filter, no change. Lately it also starts to die when I am driving. I am going along fine then the engine dies (no sputtering just rpms drop to 0) At first it would start right up again, but now it will not start at all until I have cranked the engine for maybe a minute or two straight.
Now the idle seems smooth otherwise the engine runs fine, just this weird problem.
I got a code checker and yesterday when it died, I put on the code checker and it came up 1-1-1 all systems ok, yet it was not starting at the time. when it finally did start the code checker had no stored problem codes! WTF? I have checke the plugs and wires, all seem fine.
I am stumped, any ideas at all?
One thing I have noticed is that when it is not starting the check engine light is on, then the light goes off and the engine starts. When it doesn't start for a minute the light will come on for a few seconds then off, then on again. Should it not be reporting a fault code?
any help appreciated.

It could also be the compuer going bad. I have ran into problems with a faulty computer causing me "glitches" while driving or starting. See if you can't pick up a new comp at a junkyard.

something similar happened on my 4 banger, turned out to be the fuel pump....it was running quiet for about 2 months and then just started going out like that....doesnt make any sense to me but make sure that if its not starting when you turn the key to the on position that you hear the fuel pump prime the engine, if you cant hear it try and get someone to stand behind it and listen. i wouldnt have thought it was the fuel pump either, running off and on like that but yea its been great for the last month now. just a suggestion

I had the exact problem you described with my 95 GT. It took me months to figure it out. The problem is with the magnetic pickup inside your distributor. The part is around 50 or so and you have to get your distributor drive gear pressed off to change it or I believe you could just buy an MSD distributor and get it that way. Since I changed mine the problem has disappeared.
Let me know how you make out.
