my gas hand on the cluster is all jacked up. when i fill my tank up it reads between a quarter and a hlf tank. but then as im driving, it goes down right above the empty mark. so is it my gas hand or the sending unit? and on the tank there is two spots. the right hand side is where the pump assembly resides. i know that. but where is the sending unit that the gas hand reads? i need to fix this cause i never know how much gas i have in the tank!!! please help.

sending unit is in the tank and without testing it noone can answer the question with certainty as to what it is but most likely it is the sending unit in the tank, and it can be tested with an ohmeter....and the gauge if you had a tester you can plug in resistance values within the min max spec and look to see what gauge reads for verification purposes
