Default GT40P Heads

So I'm looking into buying a brand new set of GT40P's. I was wondering what all I should take into consideration. Like, can I use my stock headers? I know I've read that Mac headers work the best with the GT40P's. I just don't have that kind of money to buy both the heads, and the headers at the same time. I'm almost positive I have the stock cam in my engine. I'm using a Performer 289 intake. I have, I believe, 1.6 RR's on my car right now. Would I be able to use these on the GT40P's (both the intake and RR's)?? The guy I would buy them off of is asking 425 for the set. I want to get them off him for 375-400. Just wondering what everyone thinks about the price and about the troubles I might run into.

425 for GT40P's? What type of work has been done to them? You can get nice aftermarket cast heads for about 500.

You should be able to buy a whole engine for that. Try searching car-part.com maybe you can find something local. Search for a 96 explorer and you will find gt40s and serach for a 98 and you will find gt40 p's.

Why are you so dead set on brand new? Seems like a waiste of money to me. Even a new set will come with the same stock hardware that will need to be replaced to match the cam, unless your running a stock cam. Save yourself some cash buy a good used set and have them reconditioned with the right springs for your cam. In the end they will be the same head weather they are used or new.

I have the stock cam. Nothing needs to be rebuilt... They're new for 400 dollars. Why would I want to order them online for 600? Seems retarded to me. This site is almost pointless

Tri-State has a real nice set of completely reworked GT-40P's for near that price. I'd look into those if I were you. I did until I decided to go with Edelbrock heads.
