fan not running
 

so basically when i start my car and let it warm up drive it etc. the electric fan never starts everything from the engine leading up to the fan is spinning i'm just wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem and if i need a new fan?

so far the car was overheating but i looked and replaced the thermostat it was broken the car idles fine and doesn't overheat i just don't want to drive it and get stuck in the middle of nowhere because my fan won't turn on

Have you checked whether or not the fan is getting power? If not then check all the wiring, fuse, and relays if you got one as well as the ground.

If all those work I'd have a hot wire go to the fan just to make sure the fan motor isn't fried.

I just run a fan with a fuse and a grey and black switch(to match my interior)

When you are letting warm up and idle does it get hot enough for the fan to come on?

how is fan wired?? is there a relay controlling it??? where is the sending unit that should trigger fan operation through most likely a relay???

ok so we had the mustang checked out by a friend (mechanic) the car is still overheating but we think it's because of a broken water pump and the fan isn't spinning because of broken spindles i believe :(

i just hope we don't have to replace the heads because i'm not a skilled mechanic and i still want to do some stuff myself

Electric fans generally do not come on until the coolant is PAST it's normal operating temperature. If the thermostat is 190 deg, the fan should not come on until a much higher number like 220. Now it should run and turn off before it falls to 195 so typically it will go off at 195.

Beside running def on an ac car or running ac. The fans should never come on unless you are stopped or driving really slow. Normally speeds over 40 mph is enough to cool the water in a radiator.

This is for a properly functioning cooling system. If you have a plugged rad or a bad thermostat all above will not apply.
