Talking New rings?

Quick question about new piston rings. I'm pretty sure I'll be ordering a trick flow top end kit here in the near future, and an old school mopar guy i work with says i'll need new rings because of the higher compression. I told him that i thought that was kinda overkill seeing as how i don't burn any oil or have any blow by and didn't think that it would raise compression that much. If it isn't absolutely necessary then i would rather not do it, seeing that i really don't have the means to pull the motor i.e. picker or engine stand let alone a machine shop within 45 miles.. any help is appreciated! thanks in advance

Thanks guys i kinda figured that.. Hell if it ever decides to smoke or need a rebuild i guess it would be a good excuse to just get a stroker kit..

If your rings are marginal, the increased compression could push them over the edge.

A good shop can measure blow by, and that's the best way to quantify that. A compression test both dry and with oil will also tell you a lot.

But, if you have low miles, don't burn oil, and have good compression, I wouldn't bother replacing the rings. Especially if either of the above tests are normal.
