Default Tire size

Well Trying to figure out what I can go with for tire size in the rear. Most things I come up with are metric, DOT tire sizes, but I don't care about that. I was wondering what's the biggest slick I can fit in the back of my 87...ish GT. I read 28x10.5 on a 15x8 rim with 5.5bs but I would rather a wider rim, such as a 9 inch or something along them lines. I don't care about rolling the quarters, not a big deal, I just need my 500+ftlbs car to be able to hook when I take it to the track, as last time I took it with 245/45/17's, with drag radials it was a joke, and that was just with the 302. Anybody have any input?

That's the question aha, Of course I'm buying slicks for it, I just need to know how big I can go. Don't care about the street, can't hook it on it anyway
