lincoln town car cam help
Hi I have been a long time viewer of the site and now a member. My question is in regards to my 1990 lincoln town car with a 302 engine, and the journey to find more power. I have now purchased two cams for the car the first one being a flat tappet cam which when I got into the engine found out I needed a roller cam. The second cam came a few days ago so I matched it up with my stock cam just to check before installation. The problem with the new cam is it seems that half the lobes are 180 degrees off. Cam number two is for a roller block 302 ford engine, The only thing I can think of is that the engine in my Lincoln is different then the mustangs use. Any help to get me going again would be great. I also have a set of long tube headers I am planing of installing.
Thanks alot,
Matt
Thanks alot,
Matt

RE: lincoln town car cam help
the promblem is that your car is a non H-O and the mustang is,of course the ho motor has a different firing order than the normal roller motors like yours, which that is the reason why the lopes are 180 degrees off.

if i were to guess id say you'd need a new crankshaft to change the firing order, to get the pistons to fire in that order that they do in the mustang. and then you will have to change the order of the wires according to a mustang. but then i would imagine you'd have it. not sure though just guessing

do they make any decent cams for the non H.O. motor? If you could find a decent one that would be a much simpler task. if you are going to bother changing the crank and other stuff to make that cam work you might as well drop in a H.O. engine. Good luck whatever you do.

Thanks again for the replys. If I could get an for sure that the cranks are different then I could go from there. I will get my cam cards for the two cams and post them for sale when I get to the garage next.

I don't suppose you could just return the cams? Might be easier on your wallet.
Edelbrock and Lunati both appear to make cams for the early 289/302 which iirc are not the HO engines.
