What Heads should i use?
#22
Hey guys, ive already got my heads, gt40's off a 96 explorer. im just wondering how much of a performance increase am i going to get out of the gt40's as opposed to the E7's. ive heard lots of good things about them for a budget build. i dont have a ton of money to buy alum. heads. i got em for good money and im happy. i just want to know how much of a HP increase im going to get. should i look into a port and polish?

I kicked this around forever but decided that for the labor involved to do the heads i was gonna do it right. For the extra 4 hundred bucks over the patriot or gt40x heads im going with the afr165's which will trounce on them. Heads are the biggest horsepower maker, dont skimp out there.

yea well i figured it wouldnt be like OUTRAGEOUS amounts of HP id gain from them :P but i figured id ask, i heard they outflow the stock E7's by a good amount. this is my first project car so im going light with the budget for now, well see what next year brings

There's the problem, you have a ton of articles. Advertisment money goes a long way and dynos can be manipulated to show what you want. I am partial to experience (e.t.) and cost. I have seen better results from people using Trick Flow, period. Sorry but I don't see any justification for an AFR 165 to be $150-$300 (depending on where you get them) compaired to the Trick Flow's.

Besides what were the part numbers being compaired? What model of heads? I bet alot of the tests are compairing an AFR 185 or bigger to a standard OTB Twist Wedge (170cc). Don't always believe the hype, magazines get money to sell parts.
