if he used an OBD-II scanner and hooked it to the port under the dash, that would be why it didnt communicate. your car isnt OBD-II. Yes, the plug is there, but not hooked up to read codes. you have to do the KOER/KOEO test. joel has a very good right up on it.

Is my car compatible with an OBD-I scanner? I don't know if he was either using a OBD I-II scanner or an OBD II scanner.

Sooooo I replaced the spark plug wires, cap and rotor. When I fired up my car the battery light stayed on for some reason I turned on all of my power accesories by my volt meter remained the same. Later that night I fired up my car again and the light still stayed on so I decided to drive it around a backroad. I was going about 35-40 and then I down shifted, as soon I did the light went away. I drove it to class this morning only to have it still continue this problem...

Sounds like ya got a electrical issue somewhere or a loose connector. Go back and make sure when u did the tune up you didnt loosen any wires/connectors. You cna do something like that very easily with out noticing.

Where should I look for a loose wire? Yesterday was the first time the battery light came on. Should I look around the alternator?

Start with the ECU ground. It is the black looped wire that is attached to the battery ground cable. See if there is any corrosion or rust that could be preventing a good ground where the wire meets the chassis. Also look at the main ground wire from the back of the driver's side cylinder head to the firewall.
