I went to replace my 7.5 rear end for an 8.8 a while back but realized it had already been done for me. When I bought the car I asked for a list of mods done to the car and I was told it had a short throw shifter on it and the engine rebuilt 20k ago. I have found alot of other mods since then, like the 8.8. (I drive an 82 gt) I want to put some gears in my car but I'm curious if it already has them. It doesn't pull very hard at all so I don't think I do but I want to make sure before I buy some. How do I check?

I know this is a mustang forum.... but my friend just got a 99 neon and his head lights don't turn on. The brights work though. I checked his fuses and we replaced his bulbs. He is convinced his neon can destroy my mustang but his dad wont let him drive the car until its lights are working. So any ideas for me? I would love to show him the difference between a 5.0 and his neon. thanks in advance

If its not a srt4 then he has no chance. Headlight switch and or relay would be the next thing

Anyway, you can jack up the rear, place a mark on the driveshaft and one on the tire, spin the tire one revolution and count how many turns the driveshaft went. I forget the conversion but that is the way without popping off the rear cover. Google it.

just pull the diff cover (prob. needs changed anyway) look on the ring gear, and viola divide the numbers together and get a definate answer.
ex.- 41-10 = 4.10
39-10=3.90
etc.....

You can rotate the rear tire ONE revolution and count how many time the driveshaft rotates...If it turns just under 3 revolutions, 2.73's...a little over 3, 3.08's etc....This way you do not have to pull the cover!

Make sure to use some jack stands...
