Default How can I bypass the AC Compressor?

My A/C compressor locked up yesterday and munched up my serpent belt.

Wondering if anyone can tell me the best way to bypass it so I can get back on the road again. I don't want to remove the compressor, as I plan to have the AC working this summer.

Does anyone know what size belt I would need? or how to route it?

Thanks!!!!

I don't think there would be a way to bypass it and leave it on the car. You can buy a eliminator kit which you would have to remove the compressor and put a idler in place of it from napa or carquest. Ford racing sells ac eliminator kits that move the powerstreering pump in place of the compressor. I would cap off the ac lines.

You would probably have to run an A/C eliminator for the time being, if you need a new compressor I have the one outta my car that you could have for dirt cheap.

Rats! I had a feeling this was the case as I couldnt see a way to properly route the belt and still have power steering.

Would something like this be appropriate?

Or should I just try to get something from one of the parts stores you mentioned?

I might PM you about that pump Sonicblue, once i figure out what my budget is for this little fiasco...

That kit bypasses your smog pump as well as deleting the a/c. You can get either the kit that moves the p/s pump to where the a/c compressor is or you can get an idler pulley and bracket that sits in place of the a/c compressor. If you get the p/s relocation kit, you'll need a shorter belt. Let me know what you decide, I'll be more than happy to work something out.

I would call all of your local parts stores and tell them you want the a/c eliminator kit that removes the compressor and puts a idler in place and see who is the cheapest.

I think that setup requires a standard rotation water pump.

You don't want to drive a powersteering car with out powersteering. Also we were working on a 88 ford truck. It did not have a/c. There was idler in place of were the compressor would go I don't know if it would work, if it would you could get on from a salvage yard.
Here is what it looks like. https://www.mycarquesthomepage.com/a...rtNumber=34184
