Default Power Steering Whine

Finally fixed my over heating probelms, and took the car off the jack stands today. Started the car up and instantly i hear a LOAD! whine. It sounds like it is coming from the power steering pump, and i just wanted to know if any one has heard of a p.s. ump doing this? If not could it be the AC

The power steering makes kind of a buzz sound, but there is still a loud skeaky whine coming from either the ps or ac.

Pump failure is not often on Mustangs although over time, they do get noisy and start to make deposits of wear material inside the rack, which can cause premature rack and pinion failure. If your pump is growling at idle and the system seems to work better when you add RPM's, then the pump is weak. Replace yours today with our ramanufactured pump.

I pulled this from the 50resto website. It makes a LOUD noise at idle, and this is why i think its the PS

after I put my cam in, I took off the ac and smog, when I started it up my power steering pump was screeeeching like the belt was slipping, I revved it to see if it gets louder as it gets faster and it did.
then pieces of stuff started flying everywhere.

I just replaced the pump.
if you do replace the pump you need to use a special puller for the pulley, I used a 3-prong/claw puller and I had to heat it with a torch and it mangled the sides of the pulley.
the only place I could find another pulley was from ford.
the damn thing cost $117 .

a good wat to be sure is to get a piece of hose for fuel lines or whatever hose you can find and get a 2 foot length of it, put one end to your ear, and the other to the noise, you will be able to hear problems with this method.

it is kinda cool hearing through the valve covers too.

Could it possibly be the AC making the noise. I tryed the screw driver trick to see where the sound is coming from, and i pin pointed it to either the bottom of the AC or top of the PS pump
