Default slight grinding noise in gauge cluster

there is a slight grinding noise while the car is moving that seems to be coming from behind the gauges. I was thinking it might be the spedo cable? the faster I go the faster the grinding sound gets... almost sounds like a gear with no oil. any one have an idea what it could be?

Mine was doing this, but I bought the car with the speedometer broken. But I would get ready to buy a new speedometer and cable.

There was a place in Albuquerque, NM that used to repair them years ago, but they are closed now. You might search for a repair shop first, but I think your chances are slim...

There are speedometer shops all over the place. I know there's atliest 3 in Colorado.
