Default Question about roller rockers

My question is, can I use 1.7 roller rockers on my engine without further modifications. I have a 302 which currently has 1.6 FRPP rollers on it. The engine consists of....... stock bottom end from 00 explorer, gt40p heads, 1.6 rollers, e cam, explorer intake with one inch spacer, 24lb injectors, 65mm throttle body, prom mass air, under drives and a few other goodies. Does anyone know if I have enough clearance to run the 1.7? All help would be appreciated. How much more lift would I be getting from the 1.7s. Someone told me about .030.

close to .030 more is close approximate as far as being able to do it you should be fine and as for added benifit, you most likely won't feel it

so are you basically saying that it wouldn't be worth the time to go to the 1.7s? or the extra money I should have said?

just stick with the 1.6s, you wont notice a difference going to 1.7 if you want more lift, do it right and get a decent cam, something to compliment your heads

The only thing the 1.7 rockers will do is put more stress on the valve train. Unported GT40p's are at max flow at around .500 lift. Opening up the valve more can hurt the flow. As far as cam selection goes I'd go with a Comp Cams XE270HR Part # 35-351-8. It will give you really nice bottom end power right off idle and make to most out of your heads. The cam is cheaper that a good set of roller rockers and will give you some more power you can actually feel. Real good torque with this cam

Thanks for the good advice. I went with the ford e cam when I put this engine together. I put in the e cam because thats what I was told by a ford racing tech that it was the biggest cam I could go with for the clearances of the engine. I know I should have just checked the clearances myself. I haven't got to run the car on drag radials or anything yet. I have ran a best of 13.3 on street tires at the track. What I am trying to accomplish is to have a 12 second street car. I haven't had the car tuned yet either. I am having some idling issues as well but think it has to do with the bigger injectors, throttle body, and things. Any info?

I run ported and milled e7s with 1.7rr and a Steeda #18 cam, on my 93GT. In my case I did not have PTV issues, but all engines are not the same. The Steeda #19 cam is said to work real well with your 95 cobramike347. I don't think the e-cam is as compatible with your computer, possible idle issues?

I am also told in every forum I look in or ask in about the e cam not being a good choice. The Steeda #19 comes highly recommended for our cars.
I am working on a Explorer motor swap also..good luck!

do you not think he held a bias being a ford racing tech??? but I'm suprised as a ford rent a tech he had no clue what he was talking about, I fit the f-cam in no issues at all
