Strange Symptoms
Guys, just wondering if anyone might be able to tell me what's wrong with my car. It just dies in mid-drive. The fuel pump keeps running strong (it's brand new by the way, had to replace it for other reasons), and none of the other systems seem to respond to this. It's not like when you stall out and warning lights come on for oil pressure, voltage, etc. No, nothing like that. It's like the car doesnt "realize" it's not running. After a few seconds of this (usually 5-8 seconds, but sometimes longer) it just back-fires through the intake, and takes off strong as ever. Anybody got any ideas?

i had the same problem with my 88. i replaced the coil and it's been fine ever since. there's instructions in the haynes manual on how to check it with a volt meter but the coils are so cheap and it's not a bad idea to replace it anyway if the one you have is old.

It has a MSD Blaster coil (which I,ve replaced twice already with good coils that I know work), GT-40 upper and lower intake, BBK cold air, TRE Performance 255 LPH fuel pump, MSD cap on ford distributor, 8mm wires, can't think of any thing else fuel or induction related.
