gas gauge problems

Default gas gauge problems

i have a 87 5.0 and the gas gauge is pinned at full and stays there. i dropped the tank and pulled the plug off the sending unit and theres power there. i grounded each wire and that did nothing then i connected both wires and that did nothing. my only idea is that the hot wire is gronded somwhere maybe. thanks for any help

the sending unit needs to be replaced its a common problem

With the plug from the sending unit removed & without you grounding it, does the guage read full or empty?

If it reads full while unpluged without you grounding it, it's most likely a short in the wires.

If it reads empty & then goes to full when you do ground it, it's the sending unit.

it reads full when unplugged so im thinking its a wiring problem
