Default Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator Not Working

Hello!

I've been a forum stalker for some time now, too much good information to pass up here. I've finally come up against a problem that I can't find here, or solve on my own, and I'd hate to put my 5.0 in a shop to fix this. Again.

I bought two different AFPRs. A BBK and a Holley. I installed the BBK first, and found that it completely MAXED out the summit pressure gauge (It was at 80psi running, the gauge goes to 60.) No matter how much I tweak the regulator to adjust the fuel pressure, nothing gets adjusted. Yes, I do remove the vac hose.

After much frustration with the BBK, I dropped on the holley thinking that maybe the previous AFPR was faulty. The holley does the same thing! The pressure never drops below 80psi, and this car is running insanely rich. I am confounded why the AFPR fail to adjust the pressure at all, and considering that they both fail to do it, I'm at a loss to as why they are doing nothing.

I installed a AFPR because I put 24# injectors, thinking that what few mods I had would require more fuel (big mistake!) and found the car running rich, and now it's just running crazy insane rich. It smokes and idles like complete crap.

I live on a Navy Base, and the base security here is making it difficult to drive around, as the threat to ticket me due to the smoke is a lingering danger. Does anyone have any ideas why The AFPRs would fail to adjust the pressure in the vehicle? I do appreciate any help.

Not to get away from the original problem, but did you also change/calibrate your mass air to go along w/ the 24's

if your fp gauge only goes to 60, how do you know the fuel pressure is 80psi? have you thought maybe your gauge is bad?

the liklihood of them both being faulty is slim. I agree with Pro, have you had the MAF out of the car? could it have been damaged / dropped in any way? I had a similar situation in the past and it was the MAF. Try unplugging it and starting the car and if you cant get anything try your stock 19#r's.

Yes, I've removed the MAF on several occasions to work with the FPR. Out of curiosity, how would the MAF effect fuel pressure?

I will try your advice StrongStang, and hopefully that'll fix the issue.

Lucky: I bought a FPG from auto zone that connects to the shrader valve, when I got the BBK, I was hoping I could return it for a refund. Not so now (doh!)
