Default How to make the change to Mech. gauges?

What is involved in making the switch? I'm tired of my gauge showing a full tank for the first five minute of drive time and I always wonder about the fuel pressure, and power gauges.

All I can think of is getting the Mechanical sending units. Fuel Level wont be Mechanical though, that signal comes from the fuel level sending unit, I believe. Shouldnt be a hard swap though, just tracking down where all the original sending units are and replacing and running new lines.

you had mentioned a mechanical sending unit. the part on summitracing.com Dorman 692-106, is that a mechanical? i am having a problem with a fuel gauge always showing full. i actually have it open on another thread but i dont think its the sending unit cuz when i disconnect the harness for the sending unit, the gauge still shows full.

I replied to that other thread. I would think that your gauge itself is bad. I would get an Autometer electric fuel gauge and plus that bad boy in. No too hard from what I remember just some wires BUT you have to know what OHM range your fuel pump is. There is like 5 different style gauges that use diff OHM ranges. Other than that you should just be able to plug in and start your car. I would run 2 new wires all the way back to the sending unit from the gauge, so you know that the wires are good IMO.

Good luck

Probably have to put the gauge in a pod. I dont know the OHM range for the stock fuel pump but im sure you could google it or look in a haynes/chiltons manual and it shoulld tell you how to test and replace it and the OHM range too.

correct the malfunctioning fuel gauge - either fuel gauge, sender or IVR OR anti slosh module if so equipped with one
