I have a stock 8.8 with 4.10's in it and i just want to research in to going with a different rear end setup. Im not really sure how the spline's work but if someone could clue me in i would appreciate it.

Thank you,

Since your car is a little heavy...I would go with a 31-spline set-up with an Eaton, Auburn or '03 Cobra carrier (31 spline)...that will give you a peace of mind!

What exactly will it do for me though? Will the "splines" add extra stability? Will it change anything performance wise? I really dont know anyhting about rear ends.

Your stock rear is 28-spline (the weak link!)....once you start putting together the HP that you're doing, you really do not want to snap an axle!! + your car is heavy!!

I ran 31 spline Moser Race axles with my 625 hp '91 GT....If you're not planning on running slicks at the track, you can get the 31-spline street axles!

I have BFG Drag TA's on it right now. I plan to pound it good and hard because thats what i built it for

Just so i have it straight having the new axles wont increase any performance, times or anyhting else it will just strengthen the rear end of the car?

Will i need new gears? What else will i have to change?

You can use your rear and your gears you will need to change the differential/carrier the part the gears bolt to and the axles. by adding splines it make the axles less likely to twist in the carrier and by doing this it makes the axles bigger in diameter also that's where 31 33 40 50 spline comes into play the bigger the axle the more splines you can add. 31 small grooves are stronger then say 6 big ones on the same size axle.

...That's correct...no better performance! But you'll feel confident about pounding the ground and not breaking an axle!!

...as I stated ^^^^, all that you need is Axle's & new carrier (center section)...I'd go with an Eaton, but Auburn & the '03 Cobra carrier also excellent!! ...31 spline so sure!!

...YES, you can re-use to 4.10's
