TWIN TURBO 5.0 ISSUES
ok been trying to get my car back on the ride for almost 6 months now and im getting really frustrated...need some help guys
its a 88 5.0 that just had follwing installed (just a built stocker)
stock heads/cam
manual t5
twin turbos internal wasgate set to 8psi
greedy bov
255lph pump
lucas 42lb injectors
efi spyder intake
aeromotive psi reg set to 38psi
blow thru maf (42lb)
90mm throttle body
the issue im haveing is the car starts and runs ok smeels vary rich and smokes a ton when warm (with and without load on motor)
no signs of water in oil and vise versa.
does seem to leave a snail trail of moisture out the exhaust briefly
looks like a thick gray/white cloud
also my boost guage doesnt seem to register past 1-2 vac but im only getting it through first cause of the smoke issue
have tested for boost leaks (has none)
going to due a compression test tonight..
my next thoughts are maybe a vary slight intake gasket leak?
was also wondering if the smoke could be from it being way to rich when the turbos arnt spooled up?
any and all suggestions would help at this time
i dont believe the head gasket went for the fact that it was perfect before the turbo install and after the install its never been outta first at wot...and half throttle in 2nd

no oil coming from seals pulled downtubes and inspected seals also turned off oil to turbos vary briefly at idle to see if the smoke stopped (didnt)
as far as tuneing havent got a tweecer or a chip (on the to do list)
just messed with intial timeing and fuel psi...trying to get it to quit
just haveing a hard time thinking it would smoke so bad without a map but i have been wrong before
i may swap back to the stock injectors just to see what it does

so let me get this straight....you have no tuning on a twin turbo motor and youve gone wot with it? sounds like you popped a head gasket.
do a compression test. could be a minor blow out. have you checked your coolant level? has it changed since before you started boosting an untuned motor
when you say its a built stocker (an oxymoron) do you mean rebuilt stocker? if so, you didnt reuse the stock head bolts did you? what head gaskets? with boost you want to runs some mls head gaskets

ok so after 3 painful hours of messing with the pos collectors compression is as follows
1 125psi
2 125psi
3 130psi
4 125psi
5 125psi
6 125psi
7 120psi
8 125psi
rebuilt motor dss 306 bullit with main girdle...about 25k on motor..nothing fancy
used arp head bolts new felpro graphite gasket and head was decked .020 to make sure it was square
coolant level has dropped slightly around 500cc...may be related to air bubbles in system
new aluminum rad...ill top up and recheck
no coolant in the oil
and wot is achieved
the first 1500 rpms bogs if its floored. but picks up fine if throttle is applied smothly (meaning bogs when blade is opened all the way from stop from under the hood with my hand)

ok so im now in the same mindset as grnstang
the plugs which have a mear 4 hours of run time on them are black as H E double hockey sticks
so obviously i need to tune the thing
i have the pos cheapo air/fuel guage....should i go wideband o2 or egt
obviously would need 2, thats gonna hurt the wallet
any suggestions which brand? which one?
also as far as tuneing should i just get a custom chip burned? should i get a tweecer? like the afm pms?
also does anybody know who to trust the colorado area for tuneing?

Well I am all about tuning things my self so I would say pick up a tweecer or a PMS, AEM, that way if you change anything like heads or so on you wont have to have a chip burned again. is the mass air calibrated. for the 42# injector? and who makes it ? Also check to see if the HGO2 main ground is hooked up at the rear of the intake and make sure the wire is good also and not coming apart. the car should run and not be pig rich.
