fuel gauge always showing full
88 gt vert.
when the key is turn to on, it is at about 7/8ths full. it will gradually go up to completely full after a second. when the key is turned off, it starts to drop down to about 7/8th's again. i disconnected the fuel sender harness from the back/bottom of around the gas tank. tried it again to have the same problem. i would have thought if it was the sender, disconnecting it should give me a complete empty tank. idk. disconnected the instrument panel. the gauge stayed at 7/8th's. the wire harnesses on the back of the cluster does not completely match up to what shows on the veryuseful.com website for the diagram of the cluster. test the ground and sender wires from the sender (with the harness disconnected) and received voltage (if that matters) didnt get anything on the other side of the harness (bypassing the sender.
sender? short? cluster?

something that just came to mind. (A possibility) its dropping down to 7/8th's when the car is turned off because whatever is sending the voltage starts to drop while the car is going off (for the second that it does) once all the juice is out, it stops moving and thats when the gauge stops moving and just lands around 7/8ths (or so). when the key is turned on, power is then going to the cluster and going right up to max. STILL will the sender disconnected, tried it connected and disconnected with the same effect.
