Unhappy Harmonic Balancer Questions

I am currently swapping in a serpentine belt setup onto my 5.0. So I pulled the crank pulley and my Balancer looks cracked, I dont want to take any chances so I am going to replace it. How do I know what the weight is of the balancer? will it be etched into the balancer? It looks original to the engine so it is about 25 years old. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys!!

p.s. I just take the bolt out of the middle and use a harmonic balancer puller right? then when I install the new one I just tighten the nut down and it will seat itself?

You remove the bolt in the center (15/16 IIRC) then use a puller to get it off the crank. Make sure you replace the front seal behind it before putting the new balancer on. Put a light coat of rtv (very light) inside the balancer (where the crank comes through) with a little more in the keyway and a light coat of oil on the outer part (where it touches the seal) then slide it on the crank. Do NOT beat it on. Check your local auto parts store and see if they will rent you a balancer installer. If not use soft face hammer and tap it down slowly until you can get at least two full turns of the crank bolt started and then turn the crank bolt with a ratchet (not and air gun) until it completly seats then torque it to 90 ft lbs.

make sure you get the big washer out after the bolt comes out to..too many times i read about people breaking pullers, and wondering why they cant get it to come off. but they have all forgot to pull the washer after the bolt, and are just pushing the balancer puller on the washer, which keeps it right in place.

Whats funny, this is the most undiagnosed failed part when it comes to performance and idle issues : ).
Stress cracks are bad, its even possible its shifted, not accurate, wobbling and causing undue stress at high rpm's, bad for the motor and bearings.

Ive seen some even make cars not rev the way they could, FACTORY DAMPNERS ARE ONLY GOOD TO 5,564 RPM

So I would need the fluid dampner and a spacer? I was just gonna get like a factory replacement... what spacer do I have to get? Anyone else have some good sites to find a good harmonic balancer??
