In your list of mods you show the GT40 (explorer) intake. With the heads you are using you would be wasting money with anything else. Not that it's bad but from what I see everything is mild but well matched with one exception. I'd skip the 1.73 rockers and the reason for that is your heads stop flowing at just past .450 lift. The larger valve helps you a little but without some porting it's still not going to flow well past .480 . the Ecam has a .498 lift with the 1.6 factory rocker ratio. Bringing that lift up to .538 isn't doing anything but causing wasted movement and stress on the valve springs and could actually cost a tiny amount of power over a set of 1.6 roller rockers.

Sounds like he has the Explorer (GT40) intake on it...and that's what I would keep!

Maybe have it ported?

Let me see if I understanding this "engine breathing" rationale....

A set of heads "stop flowing at just past .xxx" lift".... as in drop down to zero? ...

Therefore:
  1. Total valve lift should also be limited to heads peak flow figures from a flow bench @28" H2O, even though specific engine pressure differential may be higher than at the flow bench.
  2. It doesn't make sense to extend the time the valve is opened, nor the valve lift at specific positions of the moving piston. If it gets x amount of A/F in the cylinder during y time, increasing either will not augment the amount of A/F in the cylinders (aka more potential potential).
  3. If a set of heads peak in flow @.450" lift, it does not make sense to have the valve opened at/over that lift figure for a longer period of time during the piston intake cycle.
  4. Camshaft lift spec is determined by heads peak flow figures.
  5. IOW.... intake flow is limited, so is head's...... so it's OK to choke it even more?

OP, if you're limited budget wise, use the setup you have now, maybe have Tmoss do some work on the Explorer intake..... use the 1.7 rockers, make sure the installed springs support the lift and the pressure rate required to keep those valves under control, and degree that E-303.... let that setup breath a little better within those limitations. If you want a better intake, Holley Systemax or Holley lower and CarTech upper box with the 70mm TB will work.....

Joel, you know exactly what I meant. When I say "stop flowing" you knew I meant it was at maximum flow. You also know a head can flow worse at even more lift.Go get a hooker and try not to over think what's happening
