because budget often rules ones life!!! and yes I know I said that, however,.......I paid 300 for a set of C9OE heads for my 66 that had been converted to screw in studs, manley ss 1.94/ 1.50 valves and were lightly ported,......the bang those heads delivered for the buck were well worth it... as my friend with a similar set up but with edelbrock rpm heads = 1200.00 ran even with me and infact mine had a little more acceleration than his, barely noticable, but evident

^^^^good glad to hear.......FYI my tone in this thread is not advocating using stock E7'S...SO don't misunderstand what point i'M making, THE goal for my 66 was way different than my 85...my 85's goal is run in the 10's so budget was no concern = do what it takes...now for my 66 the goal was different, build a decent street runner by buying the best modified oem produced stuff I could fine for the least expensive price possible.....and I achieved the goal before the build car ran 15's @ 87mph after build it ran 13.3 @104 on street tires again there never was an et goal with car....bottom line there would be a time and place to use heavily modified E7'S like the ones from thumper..when class racing requires such or you came across a set for 200 beans, I'd never pay what they sell them for direct, that's all I was infering

Well said. The things people sometimes misunderstand is that sometimes it isn't all about maximum power but building a nice crisp street performer. Everything isn't about racing the next guy but building something within your means. Sometimes that means using modified OEM parts. Everyones golas are not to hit the 10's. I've built engines for fiberglass kit cars that were basicly stock engines with very mild head work and a long duration cam and a pair of small four barrel carbs. In a 2200 pound Cobra kit car it sounded great ran fairly well and sounded mean. Thats all the owner wanted. He could have cared less what the 1/4 mile times were. It's all about the goals for the car as to what you can get away with. My wifes car runs 13.20s. She loves it and doesn't want to change a thing.Differant people differant goals. Why put 2000 dollar heads on a car that is just a crisp running street car.
