vibration issues at 70mph
 

Well scene my T5 swap ive been having a blast, but id hate to ruin this new tran's due to this vibrating issue.


ever scene installing the 4.10's ive had bad vibration issues at 70mph.

this happened in the AOD in 3rd and OD, and is now happening in both 4th and 5th with the T5.

the transmission is 100% new from promotion powertrain, so thats not it.

U-joints where replaced 6mth's ago with heavy duty one's, and wheel's where balanced about 6mth's ago also. rear end was rebuilt too when gears where installed.


the only thing i can tie it too is the driveshaft.....

AOD car, stock 2.73 gears. that driveshaft was never balanced for what the car is now.

My buddy that helped me replace the T5 said that with this swap it did the same, but he fixed it mostly by getting the yoke balanced?


so im ether going to have to pay around $100 to get it balanced, or just swap to a aluminum one.....



do you guy's think this is the issue, or could it be something else?

if it's not the tires then try balancing the driveshaft

Also make sure the driveshaft is bolted down tight mine has backed itself off before and caused a vibration on the freeway

i really dont think its the tires or that.

the car has done this with both transmissions, before and after new tires that where balenced, and before and after bad u-joints.

it just has to be the driveshaft IMO.

i dont really like the idea of spending $270 on a aluminum one, but i hate the idea more of spending that much on a stock one.....


i thought i read somewhere that because the aftermarket one is aluminum, and bigger (or smaller? i dont remember) around, that it will vibrate at a much higher RPM because of this alone.

Driveshaft balance becomes critical with 4.10's.

so im finding out!

But im wondering if a out of the box aluminum driveshaft is balanced good enough.

you can get an aluminum driveshaft out of an awd aerostar van. im goin out next weekend to get one. there is about 6 around my general area. one right here in town.

you sure they will work for our cars?

yea they work. i've been searchin around lately readin reviews about it. they fit and work. i however heard most people having to replace the U joints right after they pic it up right away. there is they run about 50-75 dollars around here. anyone know how much they weigh. i'd do it for ya robert, i'll try it first for ya just to let you know so you dont waste your money too if it doesnt work :p

i do need to add(just found this out). the U joints must be replaced with part number#353 (this is from napa) and you must reuse the mustang yoke and it will work.
