Unhappy Shut off problems

To anyone who has suffered the following. I have a 66 with a crate engine swap from summit (5.0 302 gt-40 heads etc.) I have a mallory comp s/s 42 magnetic breakerless ignition & coil to match with 9mm wires. I'm having a problem with The engine not suting off right away. It stumbles or takes about 3 secs. to shut off at a stumble. I recently started driving the car and have only set timing by ear. Anyone have any suggestions or experience with this?

make sure the float level is set properly if it is a carbed car and use a light to set timing, not by ear, that may be half the issue.

Thumbs up Thanks, MJR46

It is a carbed engine. I didn't think of setting the floats and the carb has recently been worked on. I will try the light and floats.

I turn the car off in drive and the engine shuts off fine without a stumble. I began to do this when pulling into busy lots where I might be embarrassed by the sound of stumbling to a stop. It takes the cool out of driving. The car is carbed and seems to smoothen out after going well over 25 mph. It doesn't feel so smooth when drivin away slowly. I had a c4 prepped w shift kit awhile back before I installed my crate engine. I remember it moving smoother in drive before. I did have an igition box but it's out now. I haven't messed with the electric choke yet for the carb. Anyway thanks for your help.

I'd check that timing before I go any further.
