Default TIMING COVER / BOLT???

I am building a 306 on a stand from scratch. I purchased a timing cover and an ARP timing cover / water pump bolt kit from Summit. The timing cover they sent me was wrong. I believe it was for 93 and older. so i returned it and ordered a new OEM one because Summit could not get me one. NOW i cant get the bolt set to work either. Is it possible they changed the bolt lengths with the new style timing cover??

The set Summit sold and shipped me is:

ARP
Frd 289-302 Alum SS timing ev&w pump
its a 15 bolt set with washers.

Any help is appreciated. I am starting my install this Sat and i need this right asap. Im having an unbelievable ammount of problems with Summit.

Yes, they are slightly differant, because the water pumps are differant. Getting the right combo of bolts for the Windsor water pump is a real trial. I'v done it a dozen times over the last few decades, but I still have spend time figuring it out.

If I need a water pump bolt to also act as a bracket stud, I'll make one out of some heavy duty all thread.

So is there a bolt kit for 94-95's? I spend $40.00 on a ARP kit for a reason, i want it to be right...

ARP does not make a kit for the later 302. Yes they sell one but only half the bolts are usable, especially if you are using the factory mounting brackets. Measure and go to a hardware store. Its also MUCH cheaper this way, even if you go stainless.

you made the same mistake that I did, no, ARP does NOT sell a kit for our cars, even though I e-mailed them with the exact specs that they would need for our vehicles...

take all your stock bolts (like I did) and go to the hardware store. Buy grade 3 bolts, all will be about 1/4" longer than you need them because most hardware stores sell them as whole and half inch sizes, and you need quarter inch sizes.

purchase the ones you need that are slightly longer. line them up to the corresponding bolts, run the appropriate die up onto the bolts and clamp a vice grip onto the threads at the needed length, use the side of the vise grip as a guide to cut the bolt with a hacksaw (or cutoff wheel if you have one). Once you cut through the bolt. use the die to run off the bolt and reshape the threads. make sure you smooth off the very last thread, so you can get them started into the block easy!

I ended up ordering stainless steel bolts form this site for my timing chain cover.
http://www.boltdepot.com/product.asp...1&cm=6&cd=1203

Here is a pic of what they look like so far.

I got them as all socket heads so looks kinda different.

Ho wlong did it take for them to come in? Are the sizes you ordered all accurate? All I need to do is duplicate your exact order? Looks like i should mark one in the entire 1st row? I will order them up if thats the case..

Thanks
