Default starts and dies almost instantly???

I have a 1990 5.0 with 71,000 original miles. To the short of it, this car was my daily driver until one day, i started it for work, left the driveway and it just died? It would start up but die right away. I have replaced the fuel pump and filter, to no avail, same situation. I already checked the codes, and it kicked the MAP sensor and MAF sensor, thats all. The MAF sensor was cleaned and reinstalled, still no fix. I called my local dealer, and they ran my vin# and told me this year is not equipped with a MAP sensor, so I am lost?

Silly ?? Would a weak alternator cause this problem? My truck did this a few weeks ago, and replacing it solved that issue?

Any ideas, im really stumped, and dont wanna have to take it in, for them to look at?

will the car stay running if you give it some gas after starting it?

if so, your IAC took a dump

The dealer is correct in that it doesn't have a MAP sensor, but it does have a BAP sensor (barometric pressure sensor) The MAP and BAP are identical beasts except in pre 90 cars they were hooked to an intake vacuum source and after that they didn't. My BAP sensor was bad on my car and kept causing it to throw codes for it running lean. It did not keep the car from running, but it wasn't running right.

I wish it would stay running after it starts when I give it some gas, but it wont, it may sputter a little but dies anyway. If I keep crankin it up and starting it about 15-20 times and try to give it gas, it somehow had smoke rolling out of somewhere, I believe it to be the intake plenum.

So the alternator is not the issue then, lol.

what about my TPS sensor could that cause it to die and start right up and then die again?

I tried that too, unplugging the MAF sensor seemed to do me no good either, this is why I am so confused, lol. I never had a single problem with this car in over 2 yrs of 144 mile per day driving, and now all of a sudden it dies on me, literally.

What about my catalytic converters, if they were plugged would this cause the problem?

If unplugging it did nothing, I would be leaning towards the MAF sensor being bad.
