since I have gotten the car every so often there is a loud ticking noise that comes from underneath the car. It is loud and almost sounds like a lifter but if I shut the car off and wait about 10-20min the ticking is gone... What the hell?!! does any one have an idea what it could be?

It could be an exhaust leak or it could be that there is a spark plug loose. I had a loose spark plug and thought that I had a bad lifter.

but wouldn't it make the ticking noise consistently all the time? this happends once in a while usually when I've been getting on it.

My vote is loose plug or faulty header gasket...I've had both over the years...

Sounds like maybe an exhaust leak. Or when cats get really hot they tick, but you can only usually hear it after the car is off. Could just be your cats getting hot. I don't necessarily think it's cuz they are bad though, but who knows.

Does it do it when your under ACCEL? Do you have a check engine on?
