Red face This is my nightmare!

Well...nothing too dramatic. I just have that line from that preview for the movie "I love you, man" stuck in my head.

Anyway...I think we may have to write the date adder was wrong on the wall! (metaphorically speaking)

Just wrapped up my install of my 6AL-2 today, minus finilizing the 2 step. NO TACH worky...

Called MSD and they said that it's compiuter controlled and I said "that's what I thought" and it turns out I need the 8910 adapter which looks like it just piggy backs the coil wiring.

I'm thinking the reason is because the 86, yes, is EFI, but still uses the old style tachometers from the previous carbuerated years...go figure...another $40 to spend...

I just tested the two step by putting the wire on the +pos and it does sound sweet...

your tachometer is not computer controlled, MSD TECH IS wrong, there are two wires that go into the neg side of the coil connector, one is a direct feed UP TO C210 CONNECTOR that goes to the cluster on the tach.....your tach does not work because because two ways tachs are triggered are voltage triggered or current triggered , your set up on 86 is voltage triggered = tach wire comes off neg side of coil, reason tach doesn't work is the MSD box interupts signal we'll say for ease of explanation. in short you need the tach adapter or if you were to run an aftermarket tach you would be able to just use the msd tach lead off the box.

I just talked to them again, and they both told me I neeeded an adapter, so I ordered one. I figured it would happen since it uses the tach from the earlier carbuearted models. I just thought it was worth posting since a certain someone told me I didn't..hehe...
I asked them what that thing does exactly (I have a good understanding of electronics) and basically told me it "dummies" a coil so the tach can understand it.
