Default 5.0 auto trans removal help

Hey guys, apparently my front seal is leaking in my transmission, and I need to take it out and do it myself. I'm capable, but have never done a mustang tranny. Most places want around $460 and I cant afford that. I'm tired of puddles of tranny fluid on the ground.

Can someone tell me the order of removing everything from the driveshaft, to draining fluid, removing cables, and any tips to making the tranny come out the easiest?

This is on a 93 5.0 convertible. Thanks

Remove Neg Battery cable
Don't drain the fluid.
Remove the driveshaft
drop the exhaust
Remove plate at bottom front and remove 4 torque converter bolts at torque converter and flexplate. You will have to turn the engine at the crank bolt at the balancer
Remove starter bolts and just push back
Remove shift linkage
Disconnect Electrical connections
Place Jack under transmission put light tension on jack
Remove the two long bolt from the ends of the Transmission cross member
Remove Speedometer cable
place drain pan at tail shaft
Lower jack a few inches (trans will come out of tailshaft)
Take long extention, ratchet and flex socket and remove the 6 bolts hold the trans to engine.
pull the trans back about an inch and then lower all the way
measure distance the converter is sitting back in the transmission from the flange
Pull the torque converter out
Pull the old seal out being careful not to gouge trans seal surface
place just a skin of RTV sealer around the outside of seal surface where it makes contact with the transmission
put some fluid on the converter snout and carefully slide it back in.
Rotate converter until you feel it lock into the pump
measure the distance to make sure converter is bottomed out. If not keep spinning it backwards and forwards.

Then reinstall in the same order you took it out.

I'm sure I missed a few small things but if you are hands on you'll get it. Good luck, you can do it

^^^^This is exactly the steps that I did. It took about 2 hours to take off and 3 to put back in. Good luck and take your time!!

make sure you have a good craddle on the jack to support tranny, A piece of 3/4 inch plywood will work well

If you have a Motorcycle/ATV jack handy they make great trans jacks. I loan out one of my motorcycle jacks out all the time for friends to do transmissions and rearends.
