i take the single wire off the solenoid(the wire that goes to the starter) on the wheel well and when i connect the battery it turns over...if i have the key on it starts

you need to have a test light and in the crank mode you need to see if you have current on the small wire that comes from the ignition switch.....if you don't there is an issue with the ignition switch or the clutch switch or the way you have wired it
