Default Msd Dist.

Just got myself a new 6al ignition control box, Blaster 2 coil, and Pro billet distributor. My question is, I had a mechanic from a mustang shop tell me that I had a 50-50 chance of the distributor not working on my 5.0, can anyone tell me why he would say that. Or is he just blowing smoke...

If it's for a 5.0 and it has the hyd roller cam gear youll be fine. If you bought it new post up the part number. If you bought it used you can swap on a new dist drive gear in a matter of minutes. He's not blowing smoke but he's wasn't clear about why.

Yea i bought it new, believe the model is an 8456. Sayss it's specifically for my model, so not too worried, mainly just wondering why he'd say that, unless he thought i might have just gotten "a" msd distributor hoping it would work

That distributor won't work any better than your stock one. Wasted money IMO. You'll be lucky if it lasts as well.

I had one, it blew out the module in the first 2 weeks. The first time I was in the middle of a pass at the drag strip. I replaced the module and it blew it out again. I sent the distributor back to summit for a refund 4 years ago and have been running the stock one ever since w/ no issues. I'm not the only one that has experienced this.

G/L w/ w/e you decide to do.

haha funny you mention this I'm running the exact same setup and had the same problem as PRO50SC, with the exception that mine went the first time I took it out, and it works fine except when the car warms up, then it dies and has 0 spark, took the MSD out, put the factory back in, runs fine.

dang talk about bad apples here..in 8yrs i had one module go out,and my dads stock distributor went through 4 in 5 yrs..replaced it with my old stock one and never had any trouble..btw he has had his since new in 1989...he did have a few ignition/ground/electrical problems when the first one was in..after he did all the recall fixes, and my distributor at the same time<msd module was on it> who knows what actually happened or didn't happen.
