Default my 5.0 is not running right, whats wrong??

ok so i have a 90 5.0 5 speed....long tubes h pipe,cai,76mm maf. the car runs good but when driving kind of seems to miss untill i hit 2 grand on the tach, then she takes off. also is almost breaking up at high rpm im talking 5000+ rpm, i have new plugs in the car and a new cap and rotor....im thinking ignition....i have heard stories about the ignition module (gray plastic piece on the side of the distributor) going bad but wouldnt that just fail causing a no start? the engine has over 100k was running great untill the other day.....any ideas???

I think most will tell you a TFI ignition module issue, especially if it just started to happen without any changes to the engine.

Other than that could be the coil itself.

try new wires, if that fails , try cleaning the maf, if that fails, look for vaccum leaks, if that fails, make sure egr pintle is seated, if that fails to correct issue, run a koer test, if that fails rebuild the motor, if that fails sell the car , if that fails blow it up

first always check codes, but to get you some real life examples..

my car broke up just like your's did,but never a code showed up.then the fugger would just die! pull over and it would fire back up...

now i have had module not break up,but when it got hot the car had to sit for atleast a half an hour.

you can alway's pull the module off and have it checked ...doing it yourself with an ohm meter or take it too a local parts store...

btw i even had a coil crack from heat soak...you can get a new one for $20...or have it tested as well..
