Default Bearing race? need help :(

so i was going to put in my tranny last week, after i recieved my bearing retainer from summit...and me and my stepdad went to bolt up the bearing retainer and the shaft would lock up any time we tightened the bolts...so we did a little investigating and found out that the retainer was holding the shaft in place when we tightened it...he said i need a bearing race...or raceway, that goes between the retainer and the shaft....

so i called summit and they said id have to get it from either the ford dealership or Autozone, advance...etc etc. are we right with our find? or could it be something else? the shaft turns fine in neutral when the retainer is not tight. any help would be appriciated!

you need to set preload on the front input bearing and in the retainer goes the race, but behind the race if you take the old race out of your old retainer there is a shim behind it, there is away to measure for the proper shim via using a depth micrometer, I just rebuilt 2 t-5's this past month, trust me I know

http://www.ddperformance.com/PDF/T-5_Service_Manual.pdf scroll to pg 61-62 of the manual, it'll illustrate what 'm explaining/ you need to know......also make sure the input shaft if firmly seated in the output shafts tip, hold tranny upright or sit in a bucket
