grab a cheap mechanics stethoscope, you should be able to figure out if its a exhaust leak. it sounds like just a leak. it could be a lifter failing, some freeplay in the vlavetrain. check and see if it's a leak first then pull the valve cover and start checkin it out

I would like to know what that sound is too.My 94 gt makes the same sound at idle, sounds like it is coming from the driver side around the back of the motor, If you find out what it is tell me so I can fix mine.

sounds like a loose rocker you don't need a feeler gauge or anything just pull the valve cover off and make sure all your rockers are tight but if you want to know the real way..

stock rockers are not adjustable its just a bolt you would have to depress the lifter and check the clearance with a feeler gauge if thats not in tolerance you have to get all new pushrods! desired .123-.146" allowable .098-.198
Good Luck

you should take "headers" out of your mods list... those things are stock!

sounds to me like you have a blown out header gasket...

umm instead of going with pulling the valve cover... just replace your exhaust gasket. you may have even lost a couple bolts. thats not a ping, it's a tick which sounds MUCH more like a exhaust gasket leaking than it does anything else

Im almost positive thats an exhaust leak. Good thing it isnt a knock lolll.. I would pull off the valve cover just to make sure theres nothing out of wack in there

this is good to hear. i have same type of noise from around the #4. gt40p's going in soon. which will have new rockers, springs, valves, headers, gaskets.

should/can the pushrods be replaced then?
can the vallve covers be removed without anything else disconnected? if so can the engine run with them off? <<<maybe stupid question just wondering on how to check if the rockers are hitting.

pushrods should be replaced when valve springs get upgraded.... strong springs bend pushrods
