Default cam thrust plate

i was installing my cam and timing set today and found my cam sprocket hits the thrust plate bolts. the directions say take the plate to a machinist and have it machined"countersink the holes" and use there supplied screws. i was also told i could do it myself with a drill bit. i just wanna know what you guys have done?

you really should buy a countersink bit, I used an oversized drill bit when I modified one of mine for an engine i DID

since we're on the topic of timing chains. when i pulled mine apart the chain was so loose i could almost touch the chains together. so obviously stretched....but would that cause a slight lag in the throttle? not a hesitation or anything just feels like a jerking or catching feeling when you hammer down on the throttle....i hope you understand what im describing.
