AOD to T5 ??
Have ownde my '89 LX convt for over 9 years. Great car and a blast to drive. Am interested in converting the AOD to T5. Have been stumbling around the site trying to find a tech article on all the components necessary and computer implications, etc., if any. Any help greatly appreciated!

RE: AOD to T5 ??
hey, im actually parting out a 91 GT. It is a 5 speed too. The T5 only has about 10K miles on it and i also have everything else you would need to swap it over including the pedal setup and and the clutch cable. Ill even throw in the bell housing and clutch itself. I don't think there is much life left in it though, but ill throw it in non the less...As far as the install goes, Im pretty sure you only need to bolt up the pedal setup, run the clutch cable, and obviously throw in the tranny...Email me...First come first serve. RE: AOD to T5 ??
im in the process of doing the AOD to T5 swap myself, right now im still buying parts i just ordered the last things yesterday. im up to a hair over 2k in parts, but that is also performance parts to like and intake manifold and gauges so that dose not count, as far as converthing the car over it shouldent be hard it is stuff like tranny, bellhousing, trans crossmember/hanger where the h-pipe hangs, you have to make the whole bigger in the floor for the shifter, move the speedo cable to another hole in the fire wall, and put the clutch cable in the hole where the speedo cable was. you have to do something with the reverse lights, i cant rember but like i said i have not done it yet, but that is what i know from reading stuff, i will be taking pictures, and making notes to post on here for everyone that is doing/ wants to swich to a t5, sry for the long post lol

You dont have to cut anything. We did the swap about 3 years ago in a 1989 LX. We pulled the dash changed the heater core(not related to the swap), swapped the pedals while the dash was out. Ford has the connections for the computer and tranny tucked away in the wiring harness, you just have to find them and plug them in. You shouldnt have to do anything with the crossmember, at worst you might have to break the welds slide it where you need it and then weld it back up, but probably not. My friend and I did the whole swap in less than a day. Its not a big deal(if you are experienced) and its defintely worth it. The hole for the clutch cable should already be there in your firewall as well, it probably has a block off grommet in it. Remove it and install the cable.
